7 Days

Overview

A full week of Africa safari action – all the best parks, the biggest wildlife, the grand spectacle of lions, leopards, and thousands of herding wildebeests in the Great Migration. This is one of our most complete safaris from Diani Beach and the coast.

You’ll begin at Kenya’s largest park, Tsavo East National Park, home to lions, elephants, and vast, rugged plains. Then onto the perfect vista of world-famous Mt. Kilimanjaro standing over Amboseli National Park, with its great population of free-ranging elephants marching about.

The high-elevation rift valley lakes of Naivasha and Lake Nakuru National Park are alive with ostrich, cormorants, herons, eagles, and even pink flamingoes. Plus rhinos! We’ll take a walking or biking safari at Hell’s Gate National Park past grazing antelope, buffalo, and giraffe.

Then we wrap up at the exotic, iconic Masai Mara National Reserve, where numerous prides of lions prowl and the rolling savannas hold every type of African wildlife. This seven-day animal adventure winds up in Nairobi where you’ll hop a plane for stunning views as we wing back to the coast.

Itinerary

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

4:30 Let’s begin our week-long safari with an early rise. Your Hidaya Africa Tours & Travel driver/guide will usher you into your private 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep to begin your journey. We’ll head to Mombasa via the Likoni Ferry and travel down the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway as the dawning light welcomes the start of our Africa safari.

Arriving at the park, we’ll stop at the gate to refresh and take in the vast terrain stretching out before us. This is a great way to begin our adventure, tracking for the Tsavo lions – the park supports over 700 of the famous big cats.

But we’ll also be exploring for elephant, cheetah, giraffe, buffalo, zebra, gazelle, and so much more.

We’ll freshen up, enjoy lunch, and set out for more safari action. Toward late afternoon, the land will begin to cool, bringing out more wildlife. We’ll take all this in as well as a Tsavo sunset.

Then, back to our lodge or tented camp for dinner and relaxation.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

The safari life means an early rise to enjoy the sun breaking upon the plains and the wildlife as it emerges into the new day. We’ll take a morning game drive and then head for Amboseli.

Look for the iconic form of Mt. Kilimanjaro as we near the park. We’ll stop for lunch and then set out on an easy ride through this compact but vibrant park. We’ll easily spot Amboseli’s treasure of free-ranging elephants – they are so populous you are guaranteed to see them.

Toward evening look toward Kilimanjaro – the daytime’s clouds obscuring its snow-capped peak may part revealing one of Africa’s natural wonders.

Dinner will be served at our Amboseli accommodation.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

We’ve got a big day with lots of ground to cover – let’s get up with the sun and enjoy the early morning light as we breakfast in this perfect setting. Then, a final game drive through the park and we head for the Great Rift Valley and Lake Naivasha.

We’ll make a lunch stop in the capital of Nairobi and continue toward Naivasha.

Ever go on a water safari? Here at this high Rift Valley Lake, we’ll take an easy sail past curious hippos, viewing grazing zebra and antelope on the nearby shore.

Then it’s on to dinner and rest at our Naivasha safari lodge or tented camp.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

We’ll rise early to go to Hell’s Gate Park! Steaming vents and lots of geothermal activity give this park its unique name. At Hell’s Gate we can take a walking or biking safari through the canyons, past zebra, giraffe, impala, and buffalo.

We can also embark on a quick side trip to nearby Crescent Island Sanctuary – a small gem of a private reserve, alive with grazing animals and birdlife.

An easy one-hour drive brings us to Lake Nakuru, a wonderful blend of waterfalls, acacia woods, wildlife and fascinating birdlife like pelicans and pink flamingoes.

Besides lion, zebra, giraffe, and baboon, the park also presents a rhino sanctuary where we may see these shy and gentle creatures.

Let’s talk about all we’ve seen so far over dinner at our Lake Nakuru accommodation.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

This is a big day with lots of big game ahead of us. We’ll enjoy one more drive around the park, looking for any wildlife we have missed and then it’s on to the Masai Mara.

We’ll get to the Mara in the afternoon with plenty of time for our first exploration here. You’ll appreciate the park’s rolling hills and signature acacia trees, made famous in so many photos of Africa.

The reserve is famous for having the densest concentration of wildlife in the region and perhaps most of the continent. We’ll be looking for the big cats, plus hyena, jackal, gazelle, buffalo and lots of zebra and wildebeest.

This is just the beginning of our three-day adventure in the Mara.

It’s been a long day so let’s relax and enjoy dinner at our Masai Mara safari lodge or tented camp.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Lots of big game viewing awaits us today. You can go for as many game drives as you please. Or not. The choice is yours. Discuss your preferences with your guide.

But whatever your choice this will be a very rich day of natural world experiences.

We’ll take our lunch down by the Mara River, site of wildebeests and zebra flowing into the park from the Serengeti during the Great Migration (July – October). Prepare yourself to witness an astounding influx of herding wildlife into the reserve… and the crocodiles and big cats awaiting their arrival.

This can be a scene of nature at its most dramatic… and primal.

If you’d like to view this spectacle from above, take the optional pre-dawn hot air balloon safari. You’ll rise with the sun as the light breaks across the fields and the wildlife flows to the horizon. Simply unforgettable.

Another optional fun activity is a cultural tour of a nearby Maasai village. Get a chance to meet the people, view their homes and learn about their ancient lifestyle.

We’ll enjoy another Mara sunset as we head back to our accommodation for relaxation and dinner.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

It’s day seven of our week-long safari and you’ve most certainly aligned with nature’s rhythms… so it’s an early rise for a pre-breakfast game drive to catch any wildlife we might have missed.

After breakfast, we’ll head out of the park and journey to Nairobi.

We’ll get to Nairobi in the afternoon and have a choice of flying back to the coast or taking the modern Madaraka Express.

The flight departs at 18:30 hrs. (6:30 pm) and arrives at Mombasa approximately an hour later.

There, we’ll pick you up and bring you to your Diani or other resort.

Wow – 7 days of safari action in 6 parks across Kenya. You’ve seen more than most ever will. Hope we filled you with wonderful memories and we thank you for the trust you’ve placed in us. From all of us at Hidaya Africa Tours & Travel – Asante!
