FIVE-DAY DIANI BEACH TO TSAVO WEST/AMBOSELI/TSAVO EAST

5 Days

Overview

Five days – lots of time to dive into the African safari life. You’ll be exploring two of Kenya’s biggest parks and a third that’s a treasure of majestic elephants. This will be a serious break from the beach and a true exploration of the world of wildlife.

Tsavo West National Park holds all of Africa’s “Big Five” – including the big cats and rhinos. It’s a place of unexpected volcanic landforms, crazy towering baobab trees, and surprising, lush springs.

The tallest peak in Africa, Mt. Kilimanjaro stands over Amboseli National Park, like a towering sentinel. Beneath its snow-capped flanks, you’ll find great numbers of elephants marching to the nearest watering hole.

Ever heard of Tsavo lions? They have unusually short manes and a ferocious history – you’ll find them at Tsavo East National Park, a sprawling expanse of red-dust soil and safari adventures. Come join us for five days on this special safari in Kenya.

Itinerary

Meals: Lunch & Dinner

6:00 Your Hidaya Africa Tours & Travel driver/guide will help you begin your early departure with a private 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep. You’ll head to Mombasa via the Likoni ferry and then take the “explorer’s highway” to Tsavo West. We’ll make pit stops along the way to rest and relax with some refreshments.

We’ll arrive at Tsavo West and take in its rolling plains, rocky peaks, volcanic forms, and varied wildlife.

Lunch is next and we’ll make plans for the afternoon. Discuss with your guide which animals and areas of the park you’d like to explore.

One intriguing option here is the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary, home to dozens of gentle, endangered rhinos.

Toward late afternoon, we’ll make our way to our Tsavo West lodge or tented camp for rest and dinner.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Know the best way to appreciate an African sunrise? Get up early to see it – and that’s just what we’ll do this morning. Start the day promptly and enjoy the morning light on our first game drive.

Then, it’s time for breakfast and a visit to the park’s most unusual land feature, Mzima Springs, a verdant oasis. Here, we’ll leave the Jeep and explore the green oasis on foot, looking for exotic fish, hippos, and even crocodiles.

Now we’ll take the short journey to Amboseli Park. Look for the towering form of Mt. Kilimanjaro, signaling that we’re getting close.

Amboseli is a smaller park with sparse vegetation and that makes animal spotting easier. We’ll have an easy afternoon traveling the park and taking in views of Kilimanjaro and lots of elephants as we track for other wildlife as well.

Toward evening the clouds obscuring Kili’s snow-capped peak may part, showing off its iconic summit.

Dinner and relaxation will be served at your Amboseli accommodation.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

If we missed Kilimanjaro’s snowy summit last night, we might see it this morning. We’ve got a full day so let’s start with an early game drive to view the wildlife heading into the day.

Then it’s breakfast time, taking in the natural wonders all around. We can go for a mid-morning game drive and look for lion, leopard, giraffe, zebra, impala, and so much more.

We’ll enjoy lunch and some relaxing time as well. You get to set the pace.

For a different sort of safari experience, take an optional tour of the nearby Massai village. You’ll get to meet the people, learn about their lives and culture and perhaps pick up some of their brightly beaded handiwork. Your guide can make the arrangements.

Our third safari night will be at our Amboseli lodge or tented camp.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

It’s safari day four and we’ve got lots of ground to cover so let’s get up with the sun. We’ll look toward Kilimanjaro and around the park’s environs, like Observation Hill to view the wildlife

Then it’s breakfast and on to Tsavo East.

We’ll get to the park with plenty of time for an afternoon game drive. This immense park hosts lots of big game like lion, leopard, cheetah, buffalo, zebra, jackal, duiker, hartebeest, baboon and so much more.

You’re into the safari rhythms now and can appreciate all that this rich world of wildlife has to offer.

Dinner and the evening will be at your Tsavo East accommodation.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

It’s our final day on safari so let’s pack in an early game drive through the park. We’ll visit some watering holes like Mudanda Rock and Aruba Dam which draw much of the park’s wildlife to their freshwaters.

We’ll have time to observe the great variety of animals in this vast, rugged reserve.

Lunch will be served in a beautiful setting overlooking the vast Tsavo plains.

And now it’s time to head back to Diani Beach and the Kenya coast. We should arrive in the late afternoon or early evening, in time for dinner.

Five days, three parks, and so many wildlife sightings… you certainly must have a new sense of this natural world and your place in it. For all of us at Hidaya Africa Tours our deepest gratitude for joining us on this safari adventure.
