Itinerary
Let the adventure begin! From your Zanzibar hotel, our driver will pick you up for the transfer to nearby Abeid Karume International Airport. Take-off time is at 7:30 am for the one-hour flight, and you’ll land at Nyerere at 8:30 am.
Zanzibar – Nyerere Park/Selous Game Reserve
1 Hour Flight
Stepping from your plane, you’ll spot your Hidaya Africa Tours & Travel driver/guide and your waiting 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep. Then we’ll head to your accommodation to get you settled.
This is going to be a very active day starting with exciting close-up views of the park’s flora, birds, and animals on your guided walking safari.
Your guide is a local bushman who was born and raised in these fields and forests. Under his calm and knowing guidance you will experience the sensory
sights and sounds of this unique experience. The walk will include breakfast or lunch.
Next, we’ll visit a nearby Maasai village and meet these indigenous people, get a chance to visit their homes and learn about their pastoral lifestyle. You may want to purchase a beaded piece of their handiwork as a memento of your visit.
Our busy day continues with another kind of safari – a river cruise on the largest river in Tanzania, the Rufiji. As we sail in the late afternoon, we are certain to spot hippos and crocodiles on the river banks, along with an assortment of wildlife. Look for waterbuck, antelope, zebra, giraffe, baboon, and monkeys. Sometimes you’ll even spot one or more elephants drinking or bathing.
After our sail, we’ll head back to our accommodation for some dinner and rest.
We will spend our evening at our Nyerere lodge or tented camp.
We’ll be up early to savor the soft morning light and the park coming to life in the new day.
This will be a time of unlimited game drives and we’ll be tracking for the big cats, along with elephants, rhinos, and buffalos.
Nyerere hums with the rhythms of its various wildlife so you’ll also be spotting for hartebeests, warthog, eland, waterbucks, hyenas, bushbucks, sable antelope, and monkeys.
Another unique, endangered, but active species within the park are the African wild dog. These canines travel in packs and their numbers in the park reach about 1,300, one-third of the total world population.
We will spend our second evening at our Nyerere lodge or tented camp.
You may hear the early morning calls, songs, and chirps of the park’s profusion of birdlife; over 440 bird species make their home in these fields, forests, lakes, and rivers.
We’ll have breakfast and head out for more game drives. Talk to your driver/guide about visiting different areas of the park and what animals you might spot there.
After lunch, we’ll travel to the Beho Beho area for a special treat: The hot springs on the slopes of the Beho Hills will give us time to relax, enjoy the warm mineral baths and provide us with expansive views out across the plains.
We will spend our third evening at our Nyerere lodge or tented camp.
It’s our last day on safari so let’s enjoy the morning air as we breakfast, with the sights of the great park surrounding us.
Then it’s time to return to the airstrip for our flight back to Zanzibar. The plane takes off at 8:40 am for the 50-minute trip, landing at 9:30 am.
Stepping from your light aircraft you’ll spot your Hidaya Africa Tours & Travel driver, who will bring you back to your hotel or resort.
Planes, boats, 4 x 4 Jeeps – this has been a rich assortment of safari experiences. Not to mention all the wildlife you were able to spot. We hope you take away many beautiful memories of your time with us. And we hope to see you soon. Everyone at Hidaya Africa Tours & Travel appreciates and thanks you for your kind participation in our four-day fly-in adventure.
