Zanzibar – Nyerere Park/Selous Game Reserve
1 Hour Flight
You’ve seen it from the air, now you’ll have many opportunities to get a closer look at this sprawling game park. But first, your Hidaya Africa Tours & Travel driver/guide will greet you and bring you to a private 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep. We’ll drive to the park and get you settled at your accommodation.
This is going to be a very busy and action-filled day starting with a guided walking safari. Your guide, a local bushman has known these fields, hills, and forests his entire life. Who better to bring you close-up to the plants and wildlife as you take a measured walking tour of the park?
Besides the small game, you may also spot elephant, buffalo, even lion, and cheetah.
Next up, we’ll visit a local Maasai village, meet some of the people and learn, close-up about their traditional way of life. You may even get to partake in their famous jumping dance!
We’ll continue this special day with another unique experience – a sunset boating safari on the Rufiji River. From this vantage point, we should be able to spot crocodiles and hippos as we glide by in the setting afternoon sun.
Along the river’s banks also look for giraffe, waterbuck, warthog, and impala taking their refreshment. And up in the trees, you are sure to spot baboons, blue and black & white Colobus monkeys.
What an incredible first day on safari!
We will spend the evening at our Nyerere lodge or tented camp.
Today we will see the park from our 4 x 4 safari Jeep platform as we take multiple game drives over the fields, past lakes, marshes, and through the forests.
We’ll enjoy breakfast and set out to look for some of Nyerere’s over 4,000 lions and hundreds of leopards and cheetahs.
The park is also blessed with the largest density of elephants in Africa and half of all in Tanzania. The numbers in the park are increasing so we should be able to spot them on our game drives.
And of course, Nyerere thrives with buffalo, rhino, antelope, and the rare African wild dog, which lives here in great numbers.
We will spend our second evening at our Nyerere lodge or tented camp.
It’s our final safari morning so let’s enjoy the day’s early light upon the fields and woodlands all around us. We may even spot some wildlife emerging into the day as we enjoy our breakfast.
Then, we’re off to the airstrip for our 8:40 am flight back to Zanzibar. You’ll bid your driver/guide farewell and lift off for the scenic flight, touching down at 9:30 am.
Stepping from your light aircraft a Hidaya Africa Tours & Travel driver will be there to greet you and drive you back to your hotel.
The days went by too fast, didn’t they? We wanted to fill up your safari adventure with as much fun and activity as possible. We hope we succeeded and you had a truly memorable experience.
