Overview
With its vast system of lakes and waterways, acacia-adorned hills, riverine forests, and green rolling grasslands, Nyerere is a stunning and bountiful park to behold.
The final colorful flourish – the reserve’s hundreds of bird species dressing up the lakes, trees, and sometimes the wildlife – it is not uncommon to see a bright songbird resting upon the back of a rhino or antelope. Look for the purple-crested turaco, trumpeter hornbill, and fish eagle.

Itinerary
It’s time for your fly-in safari! Our driver pick you up from your hotel for the transfer to Abeid Karume International Airport. Your flight to the park lifts off at 7:30 am touching down at 8:30 am.
Zanzibar – Nyerere Park/Selous Game Reserve
1 Hour Flight
Your Hidaya Africa Tours & Travel driver/guide will be at the airstrip to greet you and take your bags to the private 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep. It’s a quick drive to the park and if you wish you can freshen up at your accommodation.
Now it’s time to venture out over the fields and through the forests of this vast untouristed park.
Of course, we’ll be looking for the big game – lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, buffalo, and rhinos.
We’re certain to spot giraffes in the fields and by the waterways, plus monkeys, impalas, and antelopes.
We can enjoy lunch in the field or back at your accommodation. Just talk with your driver/guide as to your wishes.
We’ll continue our game drives looking for large and small game and hopefully spot some of the reserve’s 4,000 lions, plus leopards, cheetahs, and hyenas.
Toward late afternoon, we’ll return to our accommodation after a very busy day soaking up this magnificent park.
We will spend the evening at our Nyerere lodge or tented camp.
The park is especially peaceful early in the morning so let’s take a moment to enjoy the soft light and birdsong as the day begins.
We’ll partake of breakfast and jump back into our safari Jeep for more wildlife adventures.
Besides all the animals mentioned, Nyerere Park offers unusual surprises for adventuresome safari-goers that won’t easily be found elsewhere such as the sable antelope and African wild dogs.
The rare and endangered wild dog population here is one of the largest in Africa, about one-third of all that exist in the world.
We’ll enjoy lunch and perhaps go for one more game drive before wrapping up our safari and heading back to the airstrip.
Lift-off for our flight back to Zanzibar will be at 16:15 hrs. (4:15 pm) and we’ll have you back at the beach at 17:05 hrs. (5:05 pm).
Back in Zanzibar, you’ll see the friendly face of your Hidaya Africa Tours & Travel driver, who will bring you to your hotel or resort.
From one paradise to another and then back again – that’s how we do it on our fly-in safaris! The park was spectacular, wasn’t it? We hope you enjoyed visiting Africa’s largest game park and perhaps now want to explore more of our fantastic reserves. From your entire team at Hidaya Africa Tours & Travel, we thank you for your adventuresome spirit and hope to see you soon!
